A pneumonia in immunocompromised people caused by a protozoan present almost everywhere, but which is normally destroyed by healthy immune systems. The protozoan is airborne, but cannot be transmitted this way to unaffected individuals.  Once a person develops PCP, they are susceptible to recurrence of the disease.  PCP is the leading cause of death in persons with AIDS.
